Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) hurled a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts in her Rutgers University-Camden debut and added a three-run home run as the designated player in the nightcap to lead the Scarlet Raptors to an opening-day sweep over John Jay College of Criminal Justice in a non-conference softball doubleheader here Tuesday.
Rutgers-Camden won the opening game, 6-0, and took the nightcap, 8-0 in five innings, behind the combined one-hit pitching of freshmen

Sydney Allen (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling). The Scarlet Raptors (2-0) entertain Centenary College Thursday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.

Scott, a transfer from the University of New Haven in Connecticut, struck out at least one batter in every inning, while fanning the side in the second, fourth and seventh innings. Her 16 strikeouts were the fifth-highest single-game total in Rutgers-Camden history and only three shy of the club mark set by Sarah O'Malley against Centenary College on March 29, 2001.

Tabby Dick (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) hit a one-out home run to left-center field.
The Scarlet Raptors broke the game open in the fifth with five runs – four of them unearned – on four hits and one error, with the big hit being a two-run double down the left field line by junior second baseman

Lindsay Day (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest).For the game, Rice and Dick both collected two hits and one RBI, while Dick scored twice. Welsh went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.
McKenna took the loss, hurling a seven-hitter with three walks and allowing only two earned runs.

In the nightcap, stopped in the fifth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule, Rutgers-Camden put the game away early with three runs in the first and four in the second. Potts tossed two hitless innings to start the game, walking three and striking out two, and Allen notched the win with three shutout innings, walking two, striking out two and allowing the Bloodhounds' lone hit of the day – a leadoff single in the fifth inning by senior third baseman

Four more runs – two unearned – scored in the second, which opened with an error, another bunt single by Eltzholtz and a line drive home run to center field by Scott. Senior catcher
Gabby Colon (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) added a sacrifice fly later in the frame and the Raptors' last run came in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by freshman leftfielder
Allysa Ellis (Vineland, NJ/Vineland). Eltzholtz had two hits and two runs in the game, while Scott scored twice and drove home three runs and Macaluso also scored twice.
