ABINGTON, Penn. – Freshman pitcher Allyson Potts (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Regional) capped a five-run rally in the top of the seventh inning of the first game, singling home the eventual winning run in her first collegiate victory, and the Rutgers University-Camden softball team went on to earn a doubleheader split against Penn State-Abington in a non-conference doubleheader here Thursday.

The Scarlet Raptors rallied to win the opener, 9-8, before dropping the nightcap, 10-2, in a game called in the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.

The split leaves the Scarlet Raptors with a 14-7-1 record, while the Nittany Lions are 6-2.

Rutgers-Camden plays a big New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday when it visits Kean University.

Trailing, 8-4, heading to the seventh inning, the Scarlet Raptors exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh on five hits and a walk to sophomore centerfielder Lexy Fair (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology), which sparked the whole uprising. Following Fair's walk, senior catcher Tabby Dick (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) singled and sophomore first baseman Lindsay Day (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) drilled a RBI single. Sophomore second baseman Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) singled home another run and a RBI ground out by junior shortstop Krystine Rice (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) made it an 8-7 game. Freshman third baseman Jessea Macaluso (Charlotte, NC/Allentown) followed with a game-tying double and scored the eventual winning run on Potts' single to left field.

For the game, Dick went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Day and Scott were both 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Day scored twice and Scott added one run.

The Nittany Lions bounced back in the nightcap, taking advantage of nine hits, three errors and five walks in the five-inning game. This game proved to be the Sheila O'Hagan (Willow Grove, PA/Archbishop Wood) show for Penn State-Abington. The senior designated player ripped a two-run homer in the first inning and added a two-run shot in the Nittany Lions' seven-run second inning. For the game, O'Hagan went 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs.

Rice and Scott both went 2-for-3 for the Raptors to account for four of the five Rutgers-Camden hits.
