Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Penn. (Oct. 21, 2015) – Junior forward Billy Evers (Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) scored the lone goal of the game with 16:54 remaining in regulation to lift the Swarthmore College men's soccer team over Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, in a non-conference game here Wednesday night.

Swarthmore improves to 6-7-2, a deceptive mark that includes games against numerous highly-ranked teams.

Rutgers-Camden, which also has played a strong schedule, falls to 9-7-1 with its fourth consecutive loss. It is the Scarlet Raptors' longest losing streak since a five-game skid Sept. 13-25, 2002.

The Scarlet Raptors out-shot the Garnet, 16-8, and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks, but Evers scored the game's lone goal late in the second half. He settled the ball outside the top left side of the box and fired a 25-yard shot the curled into the upper right corner. His second goal of the season was assisted by sophomore midfielder Michael Nafziger (Crozet, VA/Western Albemarle).

Evers nearly scored in the game's 16th minute,  but his point-blank header was saved by Raptor freshman goalie James Brett (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra). Brett finished with that one save on the night, while Swarthmore senior keeper Tyler Zon (Wellesley, MA/Noble and Grenough) had three saves to earn the shutout.

Rutgers-Camden returns to New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. game at Rutgers-Newark.
