Box Score ASTON, Penn. (Dec. 30, 2015) – The Neumann University men's basketball team raced to a quick 21-2 lead and was never threatened as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 81-48, here Wednesday night in a non-conference game.
The Knights evened their record at 5-5, while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 2-8.
Neumann opened the game scoring the first four points. After a layup from Raptor senior guard/forward
John Tatem (Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) cut the gap to 4-2, the Knights rattled off the next 17 points.
Neumann increased its leads to 28-6 and 34-10 on the way to a 48-22 halftime bulge. The Knights had three players in double figures offensively after the first 20 minutes, with senior guard
Denzel Yard (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Learning Center) and junior guard
DeShawn Lowman (Wilmington, DE/Concord) scoring 11 points apiece and junior forward
James Butler (Philadelphia, A/Vaux) contributing 10 points and six rebounds.
For the Scarlet Raptors, Tatem had six first-half points.
Butler finished with a double-double for the Knights, collecting game-high totals of 14 points and 11 rebounds, while adding a game-high five steals. Yard added 13 points, while sophomore guard
Tyaire Hudson (Wilmington, DE/Hodgson Vo. Tech) netted 12. Lowman and sophomore guard
Tony Parker (Philadelphia, PA/Communications Tech) scored 11 points apiece for the Knights.
Rutgers-Camden received career highs of 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals from freshman forward
Isaac Destin (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood), who tied Neumann's Butler for game-high scoring honors. Tatem finished with seven points and sophomore forward
Abby Bah (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) notched six points and five rebounds.
The Scarlet Raptors return to New Jersey Athletic Conference action next Wednesday, Jan. 6, when they travel to Rutgers-Newark for an 8 p.m. game.
