Armin Cane (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Stockton University men's basketball team over Rutgers University-Camden, 71-51, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
Stockton, which received eight votes toward this week's
D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, improves to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Camden falls to 1-6 and 1-3.
Stockton leads the all-time series, 69-8, and has won the last 15 games and 61 of the last 62 in the series. The lone Raptor win in that span came on Feb. 13, 2008 by an 87-74 score.
After Stockton scored the first seven points of the game and watched Rutgers-Camden forge back into a 10-10 tie, junior forward
Maurice Hart (Asbury Park, NJ/Asbury Park) broke the deadlock with a layup. That sparked a 14-4 Osprey run that put the host team up, 24-14. The closest the Raptors came after that was 31-26, right before the Ospreys finished with a 34-26 halftime lead.
Cane scored 12 first-half points for Stockton, which came out of the break on a 16-4 run. He finished shooting 10-for-19 from the field, including 2-for-8 from three-point range. He hit all three of his free throws.
Junior guard
Tom Catanoso (Cape May Courthouse, NJ/Middle Township) added 12 points for the Ospreys, while Hart and junior forward
Jaymere Hadden (Millville, NJ/Millville) led the team with seven rebounds apiece. Hadden added a game-high four assists.
Rutgers-Camden received 14 points from freshman guard
Elijah Robles (Union, NJ/Union). Junior guard
Davis Graham (Cinnaminson, NJ/Doane Academy) collected 11 points and senior guard/forward
John Tatem (Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) added 10.
Sophomore forward
Abby Bah (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) scored nine points and added a game-high 10 rebounds to set a new career high. His previous high of nine was accomplished against Rosemont on Nov. 20. Bah also blocked two shots.
Robles led the Raptors with three assists and senior guard
Jonathan Baker-Jernigan (Willingboro, NJ/BCIT-Medford) had three steals to tie for the game high with a pair of Ospreys.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday with a 1 p.m. non-conference game at Immaculata University.
