Box Score

UNION, N.J. (May 2, 2015) – The Rutgers University-Camden baseball team continued clawing its way back through the losers' bracket in the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs here Saturday morning.

Rutgers-Camden scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings and rode the combined four-hit pitching of junior Ryan Sullivan (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) and senior Jeff Singer (Cinnaminson, NJ/Holy Cross) as they eliminated Ramapo College, 2-1.

The victory advances the Scarlet Raptors to tonight's losers' bracket game at 5 p.m., where they will face The College of New Jersey, an 8-6 loser to Kean University earlier this afternoon. The survivor of the Rutgers-Camden/TCNJ game will play Kean for the NJAC title on Sunday, needing to beat the Cougars twice to win the conference title.

Ramapo College took an early 1-0 lead on three hits in the third inning, including a run-scoring single through the right side by sophomore right fielder Robert DeAngelis (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell).

Roadrunner senior ace Walker Larson (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) made that run stand up until the sixth inning, when the Scarlet Raptors' junior third baseman Brett Tenuto (Audubon, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) ripped a triple. He scored on a squeeze by senior center fielder Bobby Romano (Vineland, NJ/Vineland).

In the seventh inning, senior first baseman Connor Hall (Delran, NJ/Delran) drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a ground out and went to third on a single by sophomore right fielder Zach Ellin (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee). Senior Ed King (Riverton, NJ/Holy Cross) was inserted as a pinch-runner and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tenuto.

Sullivan (4-3) worked the first seven innings, allowing four hits, two walks and one earned run. He struck out three. Singer hurled two perfect innings to earn his second save, striking out two.

Larson (8-2) allowed seven hits, two walks and two earned runs in eight innings, while striking out six.

Sophomore left fielder Joe Brooks (Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) went 3-for-4 to pace the Raptors' attack, while Ellin was 2-for-3. Tenuto went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
