Box Score 2 CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 13, 2015) – The calendar said it was only mid-September, but the Christopher Newport University and Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer teams played a game with NCAA tournament intensity in the championship contest of the 15th annual Cialella Soccer Classic here Sunday.
After 110 minutes of tight, thrilling soccer, the two teams settled for a 0-0 tie in the double-overtime battle. CNU, ranked No. 1 nationally in this week's
D3soccer.com Top 25 poll, earned the Cialella title on the third tie-breaker, the least amount of goals allowed in the event, following a 1-0 overtime win against New Jersey City University Saturday and Sunday's scoreless tie. The first two tie-breakers, head-to-head results and tournament goal differential (plus one) for both the Captains and the Scarlet Raptors were the same. Rutgers-Camden edged Manhattanville College, 3-2, Saturday.
In the first game of the day, Manhattanville took the lead on a first-half own goal and tallied three times in the final 10 minutes of the contest to blank NJCU, 4-0.

Christopher Newport (5-0-1) and Rutgers-Camden (3-1-1) didn't score any goals, but the action and playoff atmosphere was thick. The Captains finished with a 26-16 advantage in shots and a 10-5 edge in corner kicks, forcing the Raptors' freshman keeper, Brett, to make 13 saves. Mann, a senior, made seven saves in the CNU goal.
Rutgers-Camden nearly broke the scoreless deadlock in the 42nd minute when Ryan hit a shot off the right post, one of several near misses he had on the day. Early in the second half, freshman
Vincenzo Masitti (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) just missed outside the right post on a header.
Christopher Newport thought it had the game's first goal in the 67th minute when junior
Patrick Burns (Clifton Forge, VA/Alleghany) hit a shot off the inside of the right post that bounded across the goal mouth, and, it was ruled, barely missed crossing the line. In the first overtime, meanwhile, Brett made a great one-on-one stop at the top of the box against the Captains'
Mark Brewington (Newport News, VA/Woodside). Manhattanville College 4, New Jersey City University 0
Manhattanville (3-2) was held off the board by another sterling effort from NJCU freshman keeper Riggs until late in the first half, when an own goal put the Valiants ahead to stay on a ball accidentally kicked into the net by a Gothic Knight.
Late in the game, Martinsson put on a clinic, beginning at 80:56 when he one-timed a corner kick out of the air and inside the far left post. Freshman midfielder
Hugo Landberg (Stockholm, Sweden/The Aquinas Institute of Rochester) took the corner kick.
Less than four minutes later, Martinsson's cross from the left side was hit off the crossbar and into the goal by Landberg. Martinsson notched his final goal only 49 seconds later.
Manhattanville out-shot NJCU (1-4), 20-18, and held a 9-7 edge in corner kicks. Riggs made seven saves for the Gothic Knights. Senior
Willie Silber (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) made five saves in the first 84:28 of action, while freshman
Markus Schwarz (Vienna, Austria/Al Bateen Secondary School) finished the final 5:32 in goal without a save for the combined shutout.
