Kris O'Connor (Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI) scored a game-high 20 points, including five of the 11 three-pointers nailed by the Rowan University men's basketball team, as the Profs defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 82-64, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
Rowan improves to 8-11 overall and 5-7 in the NJAC as it earned a split of the season series against Rutgers-Camden. The Scarlet Raptors fall to 2-15 overall and 1-10 in the NJAC with their ninth straight loss.
Rowan leads the all-time series, 90-32.
The lead changed hands five times in the early going, but with the score deadlocked at 18-18, the Profs nailed three straight three-pointers, taking the lead for good on a trey by junior forward
Shawn Wilson (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville). Following a pair of foul shots by the Raptors' freshman guard
Elijah Robles (Clinton, NJ/Clinton), O'Connor followed with back-to-back treys to balloon the margin to 27-20. The Scarlet Raptors never got closer than five points (27-22) the rest of the way, and the Profs led by as many as 26 points (69-43) in the second half.
Rowan shot 11-for-32 (34.4 percent) from three-point range and forced 19 Rutgers-Camden turnovers. The Profs shot 6-for-18 (33.3) from the line in the opening half, when they took a 35-28 lead at the break.
In addition to O'Connor, Wilson finished with 15 points for Rowan, while senior forward
Chris Gross (Cranford, NJ/Roselle Catholic) added 12. Wilson also had a team-high five rebounds as Rowan was out-rebounded, 42-36.
Robles, who hit the game-winning shot when Rutgers-Camden beat Rowan in Camden on Dec. 2, collected 18 points for the Scarlet Raptors. Freshman forward
Isaac Destin (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood), the two-time NJAC Rookie of the Week, notched 10 points for Rutgers-Camden. Sophomore guard
Charlie Riccardi (Mullica Hill, NJ/St. Joseph-Hammonton), who transferred to Rutgers-Camden from Rowan, finished with nine points.
Sophomore forward
Abby Bah (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for the Raptors, marking his third straight game with double-digit boards and his seventh on the season. He also owns a pair of nine-rebound games.
Freshman guard
Kelvin Rivera (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) led the Raptors with a career-high four assists, while adding six points.
