Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (March 6, 2016) – Senior
Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) tossed a one-hit shutout as the Rutgers University-Camden won its first game of the year and wound up with a Sunday split of two games at the Beach Blast tournament.
Scott blanked Roanoke College, 2-0, in the Scarlet Raptors' first game of the day. In their second game, the Raptors lost to the nation's seventh-ranked team, host Virginia Wesleyan College, 6-3. Rutgers-Camden finished its season-opening trip with a 1-3 record.
The Scarlet Raptors won't play again until traveling to the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, during spring break. Their next game will be on March 14 down south when they face Albertus Magnus College at 9:30 a.m.

Scott allowed only two walks and a one-out single to right field in the third inning by the Maroons' leadoff hitter, sophomore center fielder
Taylor Carter (Roanoke, VA/Northside). She struck out four while evening her season record at 1-1 and lowering her ERA to 1.38.
The Raptors scored the only run she needed in the first inning, following an infield single by junior shortstop
Jalene Garcia (Vineland, NJ/Vineland). She advanced to second on a sacrifice by sophomore second baseman
Taylor Nichols (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights), and moved up on a ground out by Scott. She scored on a grounder to shortstop by senior third baseman
Katie Larson (Delran, NJ/Delran). The Raptors tacked on an insurance run in the third inning against losing pitcher
Taylor Asimakopoulos (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring). With two outs, Nichols singled to center and Scott followed with an RBI double down the left field line.
Scott retired her last five batters to nail down the shutout.
#7 Virginia Wesleyan 6, Rutgers-Camden 3
The host Marlins, ranked No. 7 in the latest NFCA Division III Top 25 poll, raised their record to 9-1 as they took advantage of 10 hits, three walks and an error to score six runs, five of them earned. After notching an unearned run in the first inning, the Marlins scored three times in the third to take a 4-0 lead. The big hit of the frame was a two-run single by junior right fielder
Blake Henderson (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes). Rutgers-Camden cut the gap in half with two runs in the fifth inning, sparked when freshman left fielder
Kacie Pisani (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) led off the frame getting hit by a pitch. Freshman
Lauren Glaze (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) drew a walk in a pinch-hitting appearance and both scored on a single to right-center by junior right fielder
Megan Goodspeed (Florence, NJ/Florence). Virginia Wesleyan answered with an RBI single from Henderson in the bottom of the frame and both teams scored a single run in the sixth. Rutgers-Camden's tally came on three singles, including a run-scoring hit by Pisani.

Lindsay Day (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) both had two hits, including a 2-for-2 game for Day, who also scored a run.

Courtney Bogan (Round Hill, VA/Woodgrove) went 3-for-4 with two run in the leadoff spot for the Marlins. Henderson went 2–for-4 with three RBIs.

Mary Shipp (Virginia Beach, VA/First Colonial) scattered seven hits and two walks to raise her record to 5-0. She struck out four and allowed three earned runs.
Junior
Abby Merryman (Washington Township, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) took the loss, allowing 10 hits, six runs (five earned) and three walks in her six-inning complete game.
