MONTCLAIR, N.J. (Jan. 11, 2017) – The Montclair State University men's basketball team outscored Rutgers University-Camden, 10-4, over the final 2:24 to edge the Scarlet Raptors, 58-54, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
The loss snapped the Raptors' two-game winning streak and dropped Rutgers-Camden to 2-10 overall and 1-7 in the NJAC. Montclair State improves to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
Montclair State leads the all-time series, 51-9, and has won 18 of its last 19 games against the Scarlet Raptors, including eight straight. The last Raptor win came by a 69-59 score in Camden on Dec. 15, 2012.
Down by as many as nine points in the first half (18-9), the Scarlet Raptors fought back to grab a 27-26 lead at the break. They took their first lead of the night with 43 seconds remaining in the half when a pair of foul shots by sophomore guard

Isaac Destin (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood) had 10 first-half points for Rutgers-Camden, while freshman guard
Keith Washington Jr. (Clementon, NJ/Monsignor Bonner) added six. For the Red Hawks, junior guard
Vince Anfield (Mt. Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) scored six points in the opening half.
Rutgers-Camden led by as many as five points (38-33) early in the second half, but Montclair State fought back to tie the game at 47-47 on a jumper by junior guard
Jovanni Chatham (Brooklyn, NY/Christ the King) with 4:29 remaining. A free throw by senior forward
Brandon Channer (Manchester, Jamaica/Strawberry Crest) allowed the Red Hawks to take a 48-47 lead moments later, but the Scarlet Raptors regained the lead for the last time on a trey by Robles.
With 2:24 remaining in the game, Chatham tied the game on a layup, was fouled and hit the free throw to help MSU take the lead for good, 51-50. Anfield followed with a trey at 1:19.

Julian Martin (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) cut the deficit to 54-51 with a foul shot at 1:08, the Red Hawks received single free throws from three different players to take a 57-51 lead. The Raptors cut the gap to 57-54 on a trey by senior guard
Marcus Taylor (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) with three seconds remaining, but Chatham closed out the game with a single foul shot for the final margin.
Anfield paced the Red Hawks with 13 points, while Chatham and Channer added 11 apiece. Montclair State shot 20-for-57 (35.1 percent) from the floor, but held a 49-36 advantage off the glass against the Raptors, who shot only 19-for-58 (32.8).
Destin led Rutgers-Camden with 14 points, while Robles added 13.
Rutgers-Camden plays a 1 p.m. conference game at William Paterson University Saturday.
