Rutgers-Camden Sweeps Gwynedd-Mercy

Scarlet Raptors take down Griffins in 3 straight sets

CAMDEN, New Jersey (Oct. 13, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's volleyball team got back to winning ways tonight, as they defeated the Griffins from Gwynedd-Mercy University in non-conference action by a final score of 3-0.
 
The win raises the Scarlet Raptors' record on the season to 11-11, as the Griffins fall to 9-15. Rutgers-Camden defeated Gwynedd-Mercy by the same score line earlier in the season at the DeSales University Invitational.
 
Action was no different tonight, as the Scarlet Raptors got off to a quick offensive start, gathering a 7-3 lead in the first 10 points of the opening set. Freshman Alyson Lowe (Havertown, PA, Haverford) led the Scarlet Raptors in assists on the night with 17, as she provided many opportunities for kills by sophomore Jamie Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ, Pinelands Regional), senior Cortnee Wilkerson (Los Angeles, CA, West Adams Prep) and sophomore Jordan Erskine (Barnegat, NJ, Barnegat). J. Mulligan had a team-high 9 kills, as Wilkerson and Erskine provided 7 and 6, respectively. Sophomore Caitlynn Marcano (Williamstown, NJ, Williamstown) also collected 14 assists on the night.
 
On the defensive side, sophomore Natalie DiGiacomo (Williamstown, NJ, Williamstown) led Rutgers-Camden in digs with 11. Junior Myiah Gatling (Woolwich Township, NJ, Kingsway Regional) led the Scarlet Raptors in blocks with 2. Freshman Emma Browning (Columbus, NJ, Northern Burlington) and Erskine both collected 1 each.
 
J. Mulligan dished out 3 aces on the night. Wilkerson and Lowe also provided 2 each.
 
Rutgers-Camden led in all categories on the night, including kills (36-22), aces (13-4), blocks (3-2), assists (35-20), and digs (40-28).
 
The Scarlet Raptors have little rest before returning to action tomorrow, October 14th, as they host John Jay College and Brooklyn College for a home tri-match. First serve is slated for 12pm as Rutgers-Camden takes on John Jay, before both visitors battle it out at 2pm. Rutgers-Camden finishes the day by taking on Brooklyn at 4pm.
