CAMDEN, N.J. (April 8, 2017) – After winning three of their first four games in New Jersey Athletic Conference road doubleheaders this season, the Rutgers University-Camden softball team finally had a chance to play a NJAC twinbill at home here Saturday. Unfortunately for the Scarlet Raptors, they didn't have anything to show for it.
Ramapo College blanked Rutgers-Camden, 5-0, in the opening game and completed the double shutout with an 11-0 win in a nightcap that was called after six innings due to the eight-run rule.
Ramapo improves to 12-6 overall and 3-1 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 11-13 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The Roadrunners host New Jersey City University Sunday in a 1 p.m. conference doubleheader that was postponed earlier in the week. The Scarlet Raptors host Stockton University Thursday at 3 p.m. in another NJAC doubleheader.
Ramapo 5, Rutgers-Camden 0
Ramapo junior pitcher
Katrina Buczkowski (Buffalo, NY/Clarence) tossed a three-hit shutout in the opener, with the Scarlet Raptors managing only singles by senior centerfielder
Megan Goodspeed (Florence, NJ/Florence), senior rightfielder
Jalene Garcia (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and sophomore relief pitcher
Dannie Dinsfriend (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee).
Ramapo scored the only run Buczkowski needed in the first inning after freshman centerfielder
Jackie Howarth (Wall, NJ/Wall) opened the game with a bunt single, stole second and advanced on an infield error. She scored on a single by sophomore third baseman
Harper Patsko (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional).
Ramapo added four runs in the fifth inning on four hits and an error. Howard started the rally with a one-out triple and scored on an error. Later in the frame, junior catcher
Shannon Cox (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) hit a two-run single.
Howarth went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Roadrunners, while senior first baseman
Nicole Mahoney (Ringwood, NJ/Lakeland) went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Raptor sophomore
Jessica Thompson (Pedricktown, NJ/Penns Grove) took the loss to drop her record to 6-8. She allowed 10 hits and five earned runs in 4.2 innings, while striking out two.

The Roadrunners rode a 13-hit attack and the six-hit shutout pitching of sophomore
Erin Fitzsimmons (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) to the sweep with their six-inning win in the nightcap. Ramapo scored three runs in both the second and fourth innings, had a single run in the third and put the game over the eight-run threshold with a four-spot in the top of the sixth inning.
Patsko went 2-for-2 with one run and four RBIs in the game, while five other Roadrunners collected two hits apiece.
Fitzsimmons (5-2) walked two and struck out six. Out of the six Raptor hits, Goodspeed and Garcia both had two, going 2-for-3 each.
