GLASSBORO, N.J. (Sept. 1, 2017) – The Lycoming College men's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 2-0, in the season-opening game for both teams here Friday at Rowan University's two-day Gilmore Classic.

In their second game at the Gilmore Classic, the Scarlet Raptors face Keystone College Saturday at 5 p.m.

Lycoming out-shot Rutgers-Camden, 19-10, in the game and had numerous chances in the first half, when the Warriors held a 9-2 advantage in shots. Junior goalie
James Brett (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra), however, made three big saves and several other key plays to keep the game scoreless at halftime, and the Scarlet Raptors also dodged a near-certain goal when sophomore midfielder
Zach Fox (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) cleared a dangerous ball out of the goal mouth barely ahead of a charging Warrior attacker.

Lycoming's pressure paid off 14 minutes into the second half when senior midfielder
Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, WA/James Garfield) converted a feed from senior forward
Duc Momo (Silver Spring, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase). Momo sent a low pass to the right side, where Abdi finished with a shot into the lower right side.

The Warriors added an insurance goal at 72:26 when senior midfielder
Keenthy Yeboah (Silver Spring, MD/Montgomery Blair) finished the play after beating Brett to a loose ball in the box.

Brett finished with six saves, while Lycoming junior keeper
Chris Solecki (Hainesport, NJ/Lenape) notched five saves to earn the shutout. Two of those saves came against Raptor senior
Brad Maine (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic), who collected four of Rutgers-Camden's 10 shots.

Abdi had six of the 19 shots by Lycoming. The Warriors also held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
