BRYN ATHYN, Penn. (Dec. 15, 2018) – The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team outscored Rutgers University-Camden, 32-13, to turn a nine-point first-half deficit into a 10-point halftime lead and the Lions went on to defeat the Scarlet Raptors, 77-68, in a non-conference game here Saturday afternoon.
Bryn Athyn improves to 3-6, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 1-11.
The game was the last contest for Rutgers-Camden until after Christmas, when the Scarlet Raptors travel to Baruch College in New York City for a 3 p.m. non-conference game Dec. 29.
The two teams played to a 9-9 tie early in the game before Rutgers-Camden went on an 11-2 spurt to take a 20-11 lead. Senior guard
Trai Greer sparked that run, scoring three straight treys, while sophomore guard
Kyle Goodson Jr. capped the run with a layup.
With senior guard Larry Stevenson III leading the way, the Lions immediately answered with 14 straight points, including eight by Stevenson They took the lead for good, at 22-20, on a jumper by freshman guard Gabe Michnya with 7:51 left in the half.
By halftime, Bryn Athyn owned a 43-33 lead. The closest the Raptors came in the second half was 62-58 with 8:18 remaining following a layup by junior guard
Robbie Brosh.
Stevenson ended up with 26 points for the Lions, while senior guard/forward Lamarr Crenshaw notched his sixth consecutive double-double, collecting 20 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Senior guard Rahim Washington added 15 points for Bryn Athyn.
Greer ended up with a game-high 29 points, the highest total for the Raptors this season, passing his previous best of 27 against Cairn University on Nov. 16. It was the most points by a Rutgers-Camden player since
Vincent Anfield Jr. scored 39 against Stockton University on Jan. 31, 2018. Greer,
pictured above, added 11 rebounds to collect his first double-double since transferring to Rutgers-Camden.
Goodson tied Greer for team-high rebounding honors with 11, while adding three assists and eight points.
Brosh scored nine points and led the Raptors with four assists.
The Lions shot 27-for-59 (45.8 percent) from the floor, compared to the Scarlet Raptors' 23-for-68 (33.8) shooting. Bryn Athyn went 10-for-29 (34.5) from three-point range and Rutgers-Camden was 8-for-30 (26.7). Both teams had 42 rebounds and the Lions made four more turnovers (18-14).
