COLLEGEVILLE, Penn. (March 17, 2018) – The young Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis team had a tough assignment here Saturday as it played Ursinus College, the region's 19th-ranked team, in its second match of the season.
The Bears rolled to a 9-0 victory over the Scarlet Raptors, raising their record to 6-1. Rutgers-Camden, which saw five of its six players competing in only their second career match for the program, dropped to 0-2.
Senior captain
Jake Collette-Nippins (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling), the lone Raptor letterman, lost a 6-0, 6-0 decision at first singles, while freshman
Jose Vargas (South Bound Brook, NJ/Bound Brook) lost by the same score at second singles.
Freshman
Matt Deak (South Brunswick, NJ/South Brunswick), who won his first collegiate singles match last week against Moravian College, dropped his third singles match against Ursinus, 6-1, 6-0. Junior
Vatsal Patel (Runnemede, NJ/Triton Regional), pictured above, took one point in each of his sets at fourth singles, but fell by a 6-1, 6-1 count.
Senior
Juan Eduardo Perez (Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton) lost 6-0 6-1 at fifth singles and junior
Daehan Bong (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) suffered a 6-0, 6-0 defeat at sixth singles.
Vargas and Patel lost 8-1 at the first doubles, Deak and Collette-Nippins lost 8-1 at second doubles and Perez and Bong dropped an 8-0 decision at third doubles.
Rutgers-Camden will jump right back into action on Sunday when it hosts Brooklyn College at 12 p.m.
