Matt Deak (South Brunswick, NJ/South Brunswick) and junior
Vatsal Patel (Runnemede, NJ/Triton Regional) evened their singles records at 2-2 with victories, but the Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis dropped a non-conference match against Penn State-Brandywine, 7-2, here Saturday.
The Nittany Lions improve to 2-1, while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 0-4.
Deak,
pictured above, won his match at third singles, 6-2, 6-5, to raise his mark to 2-2, all at the third singles position. Patel, meanwhile, notched his first win in three tries at the fourth singles spot (6-2, 6-3). He also is 1-0 at fifth singles to even his overall singles mark at 2-2. Both players are in their first season with the Scarlet Raptors.

Jake Collette-Nippins (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling), in his fourth year with the men's tennis program but playing at the No. 1 singles spot for the first season, lost a 6-2, 6-3 decision at the top spot. Freshman
Jose Vargas (South Bound Brook, NJ/Bound Brook) was defeated at second singles, 6-0, 6-2. At fifth singles, Brandywine posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over senior
Juan Eduardo Perez (Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton). The Raptors' junior
Daehan Bong (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) lost a 6-1, 6-1 match at sixth singles.
Brandywine swept the three doubles matches, taking an 8-1 decision over Vargas and Patel in the top spot and beating Collette-Nippins and Deak in a 9-7 marathon in the second doubles position. In third doubles, Perez teamed with sophomore
Parth Patel (Camden, NJ/Anandalaya, India) in an 8-0 loss.
With their Sunday match already postponed at the College of Staten Island, the Scarlet Raptors will be idle until Saturday, March 31, when they host Berkeley College. The match, originally scheduled for 12 p.m., has been moved up to a 10 a.m. start.
