Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late first-half goal lifts Cabrini over Rutgers-Camden men

RADNOR, Penn. (Sept. 12, 2018) – With the clock winding down toward a seemingly-scoreless first half, the Cabrini University men's soccer team struck a huge blow, scoring a goal with 10 seconds remaining before halftime.

That goal proved to be all the Cavaliers needed as they outlasted Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, in a non-conference game here Wednesday night.

The win lifts Cabrini to 2-3, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 3-2-1.

Moments before halftime, a Cabrini cross was deflected by Raptor senior goalie James Brett, but the rebound fell to Andre Justin in front of the net. The junior midfielder finished off his second goal of the season and his first game-winning tally.

Rutgers-Camden dominated the second half with advantages of 11-4 in shots and 3-0 in corner kicks, but the Cabrini defense finished off the shutout, aided by four second-half saves from keeper Anthony Zampirri. For the game, Zampirri had five saves as the Scarlet Raptors held a 16-7 lead in shots.

Brett (pictured above, #00) finished with one save as he went over the 1,000 milestone in career shots faced. With 1,001 shots faced, he is second on the program's all-time list to Tim VanLiew (2008-11), who faced 1,196 shots.

The Scarlet Raptors open their New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule Saturday with a 6 p.m. game at Montclair State University.
