CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 23, 2019) – On a night designed to highlight the nine Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer seniors, it was junior
Skyler Diggs who put on his own highlight show.
Diggs scored his second career hat trick to propel the Scarlet Raptors past Penn State-Abington in a competitive non-conference game here Wednesday night between a pair of talented teams.
Rutgers-Camden improves to 12-5-1, while Penn State-Abington falls to 8-5, snapping a six-game winning streak.
The game served as Senior Night, as the Scarlet Raptors celebrated nine players who are in the final season of their collegiate career:
Walter Barreto, Darnell Brown, Zach Fox, Patrick Grudnik, Trenton Hall, Chris Lenahan, Cristian Ognibene, Chris Taraska and
Kyler White. Barreto picked up an assist on the game-winning goal by Diggs, while Lenahan notched the victory in goal for his first decision of the year.

The two teams were deadlocked at 2-2 on a pair of goals by Diggs and two strikes by the Nittany Lions' Hernando Villamil, when Diggs took a feed from Barreto in the 80th minute and finished off his second career hat trick for the winning goal. His first hat trick came against Lancaster Bible College on Oct. 19, 2017.
The three goals raised Diggs' total to a team-leading 12 and, coupled with one assist on the season, pushed his team-high point total to 25. Diggs now owns 28 career goals, eighth on the program's career list, 11 game-winning goals (fourth) and 61 points (10th).
Villamil got the scoring started at 23:04, heading home a feed from Jose Palomeque for his 13th goal of the year. Diggs answered at 30:47, heading in his first goal, assisted by freshman
Enrique Sanchez, to tie the score at the half.
In the second half, Diggs put the Raptors ahead at 53:59, breaking in on goal from the right side of the box and finishing to the left. Villamil answered at 61:10 to tie the game, assisted by Jake Kemery and Sebastian Krystofowicz on a play down the left touchline to the corner, resulting in a cross to the near post for a tap-in.
Diggs scored the winning goal 18 minutes later, making a winner out of Lenahan, who played the final 28:06 in goal and made three saves. Freshman
Juan Bahena started the game for the Raptors and made three saves and allowed two goals in his 61:54 of playing time. The Raptors also were aided by a backsave from Hall.
Freshman Trent Morris had six saves in the game for Penn-State Abington.
Rutgers-Camden held a slim 20-16 advantage in shots and an 8-7 edge in corner kicks, although Abington had the advantages in shots (11-9) and corner kicks (4-2) in the second half.
Rutgers-Camden returns to New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday at 5 p.m. with a game at William Paterson University.
