CAMDEN, N.J. (March 15, 2019) – The Rutgers University-Camden lacrosse team is only two games into the season, but already the Scarlet Raptors have accomplished program history.
For the first time ever, Rutgers-Camden has won its first two games of the season after posting a 19-7 victory over Purchase College in the Scarlet Raptors' home opener here Friday. The win comes on the heels of a season-opening 20-9 victory at Penn State-Abington on Thursday.
For the second straight day, the Scarlet Raptors provided plenty of firepower as they rolled up 27 points on their 19 goals and eight assists. By the time Purchase (1-2) scored its first goal midway through the first half, Rutgers-Camden had already notched eight goals, including three by freshman midfielder
Claire Gailliout and two by freshman midfielder
Carly Gregg. Gregg's first goal, assisted by Gailliout, put Rutgers-Camden ahead to stay only 54 seconds into the game.
The Scarlet Raptors had a 15-4 lead at halftime and led by as much as 19-4 late in the second half before the Panthers scored the final three goals.
Gailliout finished the day with six goals and two assists for eight points. Gregg (six goals) and freshman midfielder
Jazmin Torres (three goals, three assists) both had six points. Sophomore attack
Demi Albertini notched three goals and freshman attack
Hailey Egan added one.
Senior midfielder
Cara Racobaldo collected three assists, while also adding four draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover.
Torres had a game-high six draw controls, while Gailliout added one. Gregg led the way with a game-high six ground balls, while junior defender
Kacie Walton had five ground balls.
Sophomore goalie
Brittany Watson notched three ground balls in addition to making six saves to earn her second win of the season.
Junior
Caitlyn Snyder led the defense with three caused turnovers.
With a 2-0 record, the Raptors have a chance for more program history Tuesday when they host Gwynedd Mercy University at 4 p.m. The Raptors are within one victory of tying the longest winning streak in program history. Both the 2013 and 2016 teams had three-game winning streaks.
