UNION, N.J. (Sept. 14, 2019) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team swept its second consecutive match here Saturday and posted its first New Jersey Athletic Conference win of the season as it toppled Kean University, 9-0.
With its third straight win overall, Rutgers-Camden climbs over .500 for the first time this season. The Raptors are 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC. The sweep marked the second straight year they defeated Kean by a 9-0 score and comes on the heels of a 9-0 win at Cairn University Wednesday.
The Scarlet Raptors used a pair of marathon wins in the fifth and sixth singles to earn the sweep. At fifth singles, senior
Danielle Lemma posted a 6-2, 3-6, 10-3 victory. In the sixth singles spot, sophomore
Morgan Dempsey rallied from a first-set loss to win 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.
The Raptors won at first singles behind senior
Aubrey Hawn (6-0, 6-1). Sophomore
Tiffany Trivers cone at second singles (6-2, retired) and freshman
Laurel DiStefano captured a 6-3, 6-0 victory at third singles. Sophomore
LeAnne Hall earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at fourth singles.
Trivers and Lemma combined for an 8-3 win at first doubles, while Hawn and Hall earned an 8-0 win at second doubles. DiStefano and Dempsey combined for an 8-3 win at third doubles.
Partners Hall and Hawn raised their doubles record to 4-1.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Sunday with a 1 p.m. non-conference match at Juniata College.
