CAMDEN, NJ (Sept. 28, 2019) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team has been on a serious roll since losing its first two matches of the season, and the Scarlet Raptors continued their success here Saturday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match.
Rutgers-Camden posted its seventh consecutive victory as it blanked William Paterson University, 9-0. It was the Raptors' second 9-0 win in two days, coming on the heels of a non-conference victory at Gwynedd Mercy University on Friday, and their fifth 9-0 win in the last six matches. The other victory was an 8-1 win over Ramapo College Sept. 21.
Rutgers-Camden improves to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the NJAC, while Paterson dips to 0-6 and 0-4.
The Raptors won all seven of their on-court matches and also won by default at third doubles and sixth singles, when the Pioneers couldn't field an opponent. Sophomore
Morgan Dempsey was scheduled to play both of those matches for Rutgers-Camden, teaming with freshman
Laurel DiStefano in the doubles match.
On the court, Rutgers-Camden won first doubles, 8-3, behind the team of senior
Danielle Lemma and sophomore
Tiffany Trivers. The second doubles combination of senior
Aubrey Hawn and sophomore
LeAnne Hall posted an 8-0 win.
Rutgers-Camden won four of its five singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores, led by Hawn (first singles), Trivers (second), Hall (fourth) and Lemma (fifth). DiStefano almost made it another clean sweep, winning 6-0, 6-1 at third singles.
Rutgers-Camden closes its season Monday with a NJAC makeup match. The Scarlet Raptors host Rutgers-Newark at 3:30 p.m. in a match that will include a Senior Day recognition for Hawn and Lemma.
