CAMDEN, N.J. (Feb. 12, 2021) – The undefeated College of New Jersey men's basketball team placed nine players in the scoring column, including three in double figures, as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 72-49, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Friday night.
TCNJ (3-0 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC) has won 12 straight games against Rutgers-Camden and leads the all-time series, 70-18.
The Scarlet Raptors (0-3/0-3) took a brief 6-2 lead before the Lions scored the next nine points to take the lead for good. Although Rutgers-Camden held tight for most of the first half, trailing by four (28-24) with close to two minutes left before the break, TCNJ closed out the half with a 6-1 run to lead 34-25 at the half.
A three-pointer by sophomore guard
Tyree Mann-Barnes cut the Raptors' deficit to four points (35-31) early in the second half before TCNJ went on a 20-4 run, hiking its lead to 55-35. The Lions led by as many as 28 points (72-44) late in the game.
Senior forward Travis Jocelyn, who earned NJAC Player of the Week honors on Monday, paced the Lions with 17 points. Sophomore guard/forward Jason Larranaga added 14 points and sophomore forward Jim Clemente canned 10.
TCNJ shot 25-for-54 (46.3 percent) from the floor, including a torrid 14-for-29 (48.3) from three-point range. Jocelyn and Larranaga both netted four treys.
Mann-Barnes netted a team-high 13 points for Rutgers-Camden, while freshman guard
Gavin Henry added 10. Henry also notched a game-high nine rebounds. Freshman forward
Sam Dolphin collected nine points.
The two teams conclude their home-and-home NJAC series Saturday with a 2 p.m. game in Ewing.
