Women's tennis team posts 7-2 NJAC win over Kean

CAMDEN, NJ (April 17, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team continued its season-opening run as it defeated Kean University, 7-2, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match here Saturday afternoon.

The Scarlet Raptors improve to 3-0 overall and in the NJAC. They have now won their last 11 matches dating back to the fall 2019 season, which was the last semester of competition before the pandemic shut down the spring and fall seasons in 2020.

Four Scarlet Raptors earned wins at both singles and doubles, including freshman Samantha Hoban and juniors Hannah Cohan, LeAnne Hall and Tiffany Trivers.

Hoban won at first singles (6-1, 6-2) and teamed with Hall to earn an 8-7 victory at first doubles. Hall also won her match at third singles (5-7, 5-0, retired).

Trivers captured a 6-4, 6-1 victory at second singles and combined with Cohan to earn an 8-5 win at second doubles. Cohan also won her match at fifth singles (6-1, 6-2).

Junior Erica Steer posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at sixth singles. She combined with sophomore Alyna Cabrera for a narrow 8-6 loss at third doubles. Cabrera also dropped a tough marathon match at fourth singles (3-6, 6-4, 6-10).

The two wins apiece by Trivers and Hall helped them climb the program's overall victory list as Trivers is now tied for fourth all-time (37) and Hall is tied for sixth (36). Trivers is fifth in career singles wins (20) and sixth in doubles wins (17). Hall is tied for sixth in singles wins (18) and tied for fourth in doubles wins (18).

The Scarlet Raptors swing right back into action on Sunday when they host The College of New Jersey in another NJAC match, beginning at 12 p.m.
