Late second-OT goal lifts Washington women over Raptors

CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 11, 2021) – With time clicking down toward the end of the second overtime here Saturday, it appeared the Rutgers University-Camden and Washington College women's soccer teams would have to settle for a hard-fought scoreless tie.

The Shorewomen, however, made the last seconds count, scoring with 35 seconds left in the final overtime to outlast the Scarlet Raptors, 1-0.

Washington College improves to 4-0 on the season and 4-0-1 against Rutgers-Camden in its all-time series. All five of those contests have been shutouts for Washington College.

Rutgers-Camden falls to 1-2 with its second straight one-goal loss.

In a tight, well-played contest, Washington held a slim 10-8 advantage in shots, while Rutgers-Camden had a 4-1 margin in corner kicks. The Shorewomen had all three shots in overtime, with the winning shot started with a cross from the left side by senior forward Erin O'Reilly. She found junior midfielder Ellie Morrall open for a shot at the top of the box and she finished off her second goal of the year with 35 seconds remaining.

Sophomore goalie Chloe Beasley made six saves in the Rutgers-Camden net, while senior keeper Noah Smith earned the shutout for the Shorewomen with four saves.

Rutgers-Camden is back on its soccer pitch Sunday at 11 a.m. when it hosts North Carolina Wesleyan.
