NC Wesleyan stuns Raptor women in OT

CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 12, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team turned in a pair of stellar performances over the weekend, but only came away with two heartbreaking losses in overtime.

The Scarlet Raptors (1-3) dominated North Carolina Wesleyan here Sunday, but watched the Battling Bishops score the game's lone goal only 2:07 into overtime for a 1-0 win. That goal came on the heels of a 1-0 loss against Washington College Saturday when the lone tally came with 35 seconds left in the second overtime period.

North Carolina Wesleyan (2-4) scored the game-winning goal when freshman Riley Benson charged onto a ball rolling toward the top of the box and was met by a pair of Raptor defenders, including goalie Chloe Beasley, coming out to break up the play. The shot and players arrived at the same time and the ball deflected and slowly rolled across the goal line before Rutgers-Camden could clear it.

The Raptors held an 18-9 advantage in shots and an 8-0 margin in corner kicks. Beasley made four saves in the Rutgers-Camden goal, while Alicia Jacobs made nine saves to earn the shutout.

Rutgers-Camden begins New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at Montclair State University.
