MEDIA, Penn. (Sept. 2, 2021) – With the start of the Rutgers-Camden cross country season delayed a day due to the remnants of Hurricane Ida washing out Wednesday's scheduled Bryn Mawr Invitational, the Scarlet Raptors were only able to send four athletes to the makeup meet here Thursday.
The meet, which featured a pair of 5K races, was held at Rose Tree Park in Media, Pennsylvania.
Two Raptors competed in the field of 32 men, with senior
Jason Hyland finishing fourth and senior
Andrew Barnhardt placing 27th in the 5K race. Hyland posted his best 5K time as a Scarlet Raptor, clocking in at 18:19.1, while Barnhardt posted a 20:09.1 time.
The event was won by Aidan Cantine of Swarthmore in a time of 17:34.3 and he led his team to first place out of two complete teams. Swarthmore posted a score of 15, while Valley Forge Military Academy (50) was the only other complete team.
On the women's side, a field of 55 runners was led by Katherine Hirsche of Havorford (20:21.3). Rutgers-Camden senior
Kirstin Slater finished 30th in a time of 24:20.8, while sophomore
Rebecca Savage was 48th (29:34.9).
Five complete teams competed in the women's race, which was won by Swarthmore (28 points).
The Scarlet Raptors will return to action Friday, Sept. 10, in the Osprey Memorial Invitational at Stockton University.
