BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 10, 2022) – Junior
Sarah Ahrens earned All-New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team honors in her first year with the Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team last year.
Ahrens got off to another strong start here Saturday when the Scarlet Raptors opener their 2022-23 season with a 5-4 loss at Goucher College.
Ahrens captured her match at first singles, 6-0, 6-3, and teamed with freshman
Katie Moore to post an 8-5 victory at first doubles. Moore also won her match at third singles (5-7, 7-5, 10-3) as she earned her first collegiate victories in both singles and doubles.
Rutgers-Camden also picked up a win at second doubles, 8-1, behind the team of junior
Samantha Hoban and senior
Laurel DiStefano, the Raptors' co-captains.
In the third doubles, a duo of newcomers to the team, freshman
Ashton Sirko and senior
Halle Derry, dropped an 8-0 decision. Sirko also lost at fifth singles (1-6, 5-7) and Derry dropped a 2-6, 1-6 decision at sixth singles.
Hoban lost a 6-2, 6-2 match at second singles and DiStefano fell at fourth singles, 6-1, 4-6, 9-11.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday in their home opener when they face Bryn Mawr College 12 p.m.
