NEWARK, N.J. (Oct. 10, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team headed to North Jersey here Tuesday night to take on its sister school, Rutgers University-Newark, and the Scarlet Raptors swept the Scarlet Raiders, 3-0, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.
Rutgers-Camden won by scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-11 to post its third consecutive win over Rutgers-Newark in the series.
The Scarlet Raptors improved to 11-8 overall and 3-2 in the NJAC, while the Scarlet Raiders fell to 9-8 overall and 1-3 in NJAC play.
Senior outside hitter
Dyamond Free paced the attack with 10 kills, while hitting .529. Senior outside hitter/right side
Erica Nebrich notched eight kills, while hitting .300, and senior middle hitter/outside hitter
Isabella Choice had seven kills and hit .462. Middle blocker/right side
Kaliyah Moss, a senior academically with junior eligibility, also had seven kills and hit .455.
As a team, the Scarlet Raptors hit .436 (41 kills, seven errors in 78 total attacks), the fifth-highest single-match total in program history.
Feeding the attack were freshmen setters
JoAnna Andrews and
Sofia Granieri, with 17 and 15 assists, respectively. Andrews completed a double-double with a team-high 11 digs. Freshman defensive specialist/liberos
Mia Owens and
Madison Snelgrove added nine and seven digs, respectively. Free also added seven digs.
Choice led the way with five blocks, including three solo blocks, while Moss notched four assisted blocks.
The Scarlet Raptors also collected eight service aces, including three by Nebrich and two by Moss.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. NJAC match at Montclair State University.
