GWYNEDD VALLEY, Penn. (Oct. 25, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden and Gwynedd Mercy University volleyball teams battled through five tough sets before the Griffins posted a 3-2 victory in a non-conference match here Wednesday.
Gwynedd Mercy won by scores of 17-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20 and 15-12 as it evened its record at 10-10. Rutgers-Camden fell to 12-11.
Freshman Kate Etter and senior Bria Purnell collected 17 and 16 kills, respectively, for the Griffins, with Purnell adding 16 digs for a double-double. Sophomore Ayanna Gaston collected a double-double with 39 assists and 16 digs, while sophomore Charlotte Pugh collected 25 digs. Senior Ashley Brown had six blocks (one solo and five assisted).
Rutgers-Camden received a double-double from senior outside hitter
Dyamond Free, who had 10 kills and 13 digs. Freshman libero/defensive specialist
Mia Owens had 32 digs for the Scarlet Raptors.
Junior middle
Kaliyah Moss paced four Raptors with double-digit kills, collecting a match-high 18. Senior outside hitter
Erica Nebrich added 13 kills, senior middle
Isabella Choice notched 12 and Free had 10. Overall, the Scarlet Raptors collected 60 kills.
Sophomore setter
Avery Ang set up the attack with 33 assists, while freshman setter
JoAnna Andrews added 19.
Choice added four block assists, while junior right side
Peyton McGregor had three block assists.
Rutgers-Camden will play a non-conference tri-match at Wilkes University Saturday. The Scarlet Raptors face Elizabethtown College at 1 p.m. and host school Wilkes at 3 p.m.
