CENTER VALLEY, Penn. (Sept. 2, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team got more than its share of action on opening weekend at the DeSales University Tournament, as the Scarlet Raptors played 14 of a possible 15 sets in their three matches.
While they won a five-set match on Friday night, they dropped a pair of matches here Saturday, losing to host DeSales and to Clarkson University.
Rutgers-Camden opens its home schedule Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Hunter College.
DeSales 3, Rutgers-Camden 2
For the second match in a row to open the season, the Scarlet Raptors went to five sets. Unlike Friday night, however, when they outlasted Dickinson in their season opener, the Scarlet Raptors dropped a tough morning match against the host Bulldogs as their rally from a two-set deficit fell just short. Rutgers-Camden lost by scores of 16-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-10 and 10-15.
Senior
Isabella Choice paced the team with 12 kills, four blocks and hit .391, while junior
Kaitlyn Parrish had 11 kills and a .450 hitting percentage. Senior
Dyamond Free added 10 kills and
Kaliyah Moss, who has junior eligibility, delivered eight kills.

Erica Nebrich and sophomore
Bella Craig both had 17 digs, while Moss and freshman
JoAnna Andrews had 13 digs apiece. Andrews also led the team with 18 assists, while freshman
Sofia Granieri added 16.
DeSales (1-1) was paced by 15 kills from Paige Lewis and a double-double of 10 kills and 16 digs from Delanie Zohler.
Clarkson 3, Rutgers-Camden 1
Rutgers-Camden edged Clarkson, 25-23, in the opening set before the Knights (3-0) swept the final three sets, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-16.
Choice and Moss led the Scarlet Raptors with seven kills apiece, with Moss adding a team-high 16 digs and Choice leading the team with three service aces and two block assists.
Andrews had a team-high 15 assists and completed a double-double with 12 digs.
Sara Galante paced Clarkson with 20 kills and 10 digs, while Isabelle Crow notched 33 assists.
