CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 26, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team tried to mount a big comeback after losing the first two sets against New Jersey Athletic Conference rival William Paterson University here Tuesday night, but the Pioneers hung on for a tight 3-1 conference victory.
Paterson won by scores of 25-21, 25-18, 15-25 and 28-26 as it raised its record to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC.
Rutgers-Camden, which saw its five-match winning streak snapped, fell to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in NJAC play. The Raptors' five-match winning streak was tied for the third longest in program history.
Freshman Cecilia Miller paced the Pioneers with a double-double of 19 kills and 12 digs, while freshman Natalie Zabloudil had 18 kills and junior Paola Molina added 24 digs.
Junior
Kaliyah Moss notched 12 kills, hit .500 and had five blocks (two solo, three assisted) for the Scarlet Raptors, while seniors
Dyamond Free and
Isabella Choice added 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Senior
Erica Nebrich had nine kills, 15 digs and four service aces.
With her 15 digs, Nebrich became the 16th player in program history to reach the 500 plateau, hiking her career total to 507. She also moved into seventh place in service aces, moving her career total to 136.
A trio of freshmen also came up big for the Scarlet Raptors, as
Mia Owens led the team with 31 digs, while
JoAnna Andrews and
Sofia Granieri had 21 and 18 assists, respectively.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Thursday with a 7 p.m. NJAC match at Ramapo College.
