MAHWAH, N.J. (Sept. 28, 2023) – The undefeated Ramapo College volleyball team roared back from a one-set deficit here Thursday night to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 3-1, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.
Ramapo won by scores of 23-25, 25-14, 25-13 and 25-20 as it raised its record to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in NJAC play. Rutgers-Camden fell to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
The Scarlet Raptors wrapped up the tight opening set, 25-23, on a kill by senior
Isabella Choice. Senior
Erica Nebrich collected four kills in the opening set, while freshmen
JoAnna Andrews and
Mia Owens had five assists and six digs, respectively.
Ramapo, however, as freshman Maliyah LaBrie finished with 19 kills, while seniors Kalma Moncavo and Desiree Cruz added 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Cleopatra Diakou notched 26 assists and four service aces and junior Krystal Santiago Oguendo paced the Roadrunners with 13 digs, two more than sophomore teammate Katie Bishop.
Nebrich led Rutgers-Camden with nine kills, while senior
Dyamond Free and junior
Kaitlyn Parrish both collected five kills. Nebrich also added a team-high two service aces.
Choice and Parrish had four blocks apiece, including two solo blocks and two assisted blocks by Choice and four assisted blocks by Parrish.
Andrews paced the team with 13 assists and fellow freshman
Sofia Granieri added nine. Sophomore
Bella Craig notched a team-high 12 digs, while Owens added 11.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Sunday with a home tri-match, beginning at 11 a.m. against Immaculata University. The Scarlet Raptors play Brooklyn College at 3 p.m., right after Immaculata and Brooklyn battle at 1 p.m.
