CAMDEN, N.J. (Nov. 9, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team opened up a 21-14 first-quarter lead and a 35-20 advantage by halftime and went on to defeat Penn State-Lehigh Valley, 77-48, here Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.
With practically a whole new team, the win allowed the Scarlet Raptors to tie their total victory output from a 1-24 season last year.
After falling behind, 4-1, to open the game, the Scarlet Raptors roared back with 10 straight points, tying the game at 4-4 on a trey by graduate student forward
Aiya Underwood and taking the lead for good on a layup by Underwood.
Senior guard
Rahzirah Blocker scored 10 first-half points on her way to tying for game-high honors with Lehigh Valley guard Kennedy Armistead, both with 15 points.
Freshman forward
Courtney Edmundo finished with 12 points for the Scarlet Raptors, while senior guard
Na'Caia Jackson added 11 and Underwood notched nine.
Senior forward
Taylor Hinson paced the Scarlet Raptors with nine rebounds, including seven off the defensive boards, while Edmundo added seven. Freshman guard
Hope Goodwine led the Raptors with five assists and Blocker added four.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Tuesday with a 6 p.m. game at the University of Valley Forge.
