Sean Glenn came in to pick up his first collegiate save by retiring his only batter as the Scarlet Raptors defeated Emerson College, 6-4, here Friday.
The win lifts the Scarlet Raptors to 10-4 overall, including 5-1 on their trip to the RussMatt Invitational. They have won their last three games in Florida, heading into the final game of the spring break trip on Saturday. They will play a 1 p.m. game in Davenport against Bowdoin College of Brunswick, Maine.
Emerson (Boston, Mass.) slipped to 3-7 for the season.
The Scarlet Raptors scored single runs in the second and fourth innings on RBI hits by junior first baseman
Diego Salazar, who had a single in the second inning and a double in the fourth.
In the fifth inning, sophomore left fielder
Jacob Watson singled, stole second and scored ahead of a two-run home run by senior third baseman
Ryan Nutley. It was the first home run as a Raptor for Nutley, who is playing in his first season at Rutgers-Camden after previously playing for La Salle University and West Chester University.
The Scarlet Raptors added their final two runs in the sixth inning on two hits, an error, an RBI single by Watson and a sacrifice fly by Nutley.
Angelo Jr., meanwhile, allowed only two hits and no walks over his six scoreless innings, while striking out two. He earned the win for his first collegiate decision.
Emerson chipped away in the late innings as the Lions scored once in the eighth and added three ninth-inning runs. The ninth inning included three hits and a hit batsman before Glenn came in to earn the save with a fly ball to right field.
Watson went 3-for-5 with one run, one RBI and two stolen bases at the top of the lineup. He hiked his career mark to 53 stolen bases, only one shy of the program record set by Josh Kastrava (1997-2000).
Nutley went 1-for-3 with a home run, a sacrifice fly, one run and three RBIs.
