GLASSBORO, N.J. (April 11, 2024) – The Rowan University baseball team scored early and often here Thursday as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 20-5, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
Rowan, ranked 18th nationally in the latest D3baseball.com poll, improves to 14-8 overall and 2-5 in the NJAC. The Profs' 20 runs were the most against the Scarlet Raptors since the second game of an April 22, 2023 doubleheader when William Paterson beat Rutgers-Camden, 21-13.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 18-8 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
The Profs used four hits in the first inning, including a two-run home run by senior first baseman Pat Defeciani, to plate four runs, taking the lead for good. They added three more in the second inning before Rutgers-Camden scored a pair of runs in the top of the third to make it a 7-2 game. Sophomore left fielder

Rowan spoiled any hopes of a Scarlet Raptor comeback in the bottom of the third inning, sending 15 batters to the plate and scoring 10 runs. Junior left fielder Jason Morgan hit a grand slam in the inning which featured five hits, three Raptor errors, three walks and one hit batsman. It was the biggest inning against Rutgers-Camden since New Jersey City University scored 10 runs in the fifth inning of an 18-0 win in the opener of an April 7, 2012 doubleheader.
The Scarlet Raptors added a pair of runs in the fourth inning on an RBI double by freshman catcher
Julian Gonzalez and a sacrifice fly by Watson, but Rowan kept on scoring with a run in the fourth (a solo home run by Defeciani) and two in the fifth (a two-run home run by junior center fielder Phil Sedalis).
The Scarlet Raptors tacked on their final run in the eighth inning on a solo home run by Nutley. It was hit second home run of the season.
Three Scarlet Raptors collected two hits apiece: freshman catcher
Julian Gonzalez (a single and a double), Nutley (a single and a home run) and Watson (two singles). Watson also stole second base in the seventh inning to give him 33 steals for the season, tying his single-season program record set during his freshman year in 2023. The steal also hiked his program career record to 66 stolen bases.
Rowan senior second baseman Tyler Cannon went 4-for-6 with three runs and two RBIs from the leadoff spot. Defeciani went 3-for-4 with three runs and five RBIs, while Morgan was 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs.
Rowan senior Thomas Sullivan (2-0) picked up the win, working six innings and allowing eight hits and four earned runs. He walked one and struck out three.

Daniel Robeson (1-2) took the loss, allowing eight hits, three walks and 12 runs (11 earned) in two innings. He struck out two.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Friday when it entertains Rowan at 3:30 p.m. in the back end of the home-and-home series.
