Rutgers-Camden soccer programs earn USC Team Academic Award honors

CAMDEN, N.J. (August 5, 2024) – While the Rutgers University-Camden soccer teams begin to prepare for the 2024 season, the Scarlet Raptors have added a prestigious honor for their work in the classroom during the 2023-24 scholastic year.
 
Both Rutgers-Camden soccer programs have earned the 2023-24 United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, making the Scarlet Raptors one of only 105 schools nationally to have both of their programs recognized. Overall, 423 teams posted a grade point average of 3.0 or higher to qualify for the USC Team Academic Award. There were 246 women's teams honored, while 177 men's teams were recognized.

The Rutgers-Camden women, coached by Kevin Luber, posted a 3.28 team GPA. The men's team, coached by Tim Oswald, had a 3.20 GPA.
 
The Rutgers-Camden women placed 13 players on the New Jersey Athletic Conference All-Academic teams, including NJAC Academic First Team member Kayla McKeever and NJAC Academic Honorable Mention performers Hannah Crowley, Alexa D'Ilio, Michaela Graham, Josie Jackson-Conner, Amy Maurer, Alyssa Monti, Emily Owens, Jenna Peel, Alyson Petro, Lindsey Rodzon, Maresa Savarese and Emilia Vallejos. Maurer also was named to the Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Women's Soccer Team.
 
The women's team placed a total of 37 players on the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director's Honor Roll over the two semesters during the 2023-24 academic year, including 28 on the Dean's List. Over the two semesters, they had eight student-athletes record a 4.0 GPA, including Maurer and D'Ilio twice and one semester apiece from Rodzon, Savarese, Peel and Jazmin Brown.
 
The men also had a NJAC Academic First Team performer in Khylei Neal, while adding 10 athletes among the NJAC Academic Honorable Mention performers: Quincy Attobrah, Justin Bamgboye, Ethan Dreyer, Evan Isenbarger, Pedro Jovel-Castro, Aiden Kelley, Tommy Monaghan, Jason Stearn, Eric Swen and Brandon Valeri.
 
During the two semesters of the 2023-24 scholastic year, a total of 48 athletes from the men's soccer team qualified for the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director's Honor Roll, including 31 Dean's List students. Nine of them posted a 4.0 GPA during the year, including Joshua Pereira, who had a 4.0 GPA during both semesters. Also posting a 4.0 GPA during one of the semesters were Swen, Bamgboye, Dreyer, Miguel Graterol, Oded Sela, Andrew Grello and a newcomer who was sidelined by injury for the entire season, Dylan Gargulinski.
 
Both Rutgers-Camden teams open their season on Friday, August 30. The men host Neumann University at 6 p.m. as part of their annual Cialella Soccer Classic. The women travel to St. Mary's College of Maryland for the Seahawk Classic, where they will play Salisbury University in a 7 p.m. opener.
