CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 14, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden and New Jersey City University volleyball teams went beyond the limit in their New Jersey Athletic Conference match here Tuesday night.
When the marathon match finally finished, it was NJCU that escaped with a 3-2 victory by scores of 25-23, 17-25, 16-25, 25-22 and 19-17.
The loss leaves Rutgers-Camden with an 8-12 record overall and a 0-5 mark in the NJAC. NJCU improves to 12-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The win also allowed NJCU to edge ahead of Rutgers-Camden, 16-15, in the all-time series.
With the score tied at 16-16 in the final set, a Gothic Knights attack error allowed the Scarlet Raptors to take their last lead at 17-16. NJCU freshman outside hitter Kai Fitzpatrick tied the match with a kill and fifth-year outside hitter Diane Pugay put NJCU on top with a service ace. Fitzpatrick ended the match with a kill.
In the opening set, the Gothic Knights overcame an early 6-0 deficit and eventually took the lead for good, 21-20, on a kill by Pugay. They wrapped up their narrow win on a kill by Fitzpatrick.
Rutgers-Camden never trailed in the second set, only being tied twice early at 2-2 and 3-3, as the Scarlet Raptors evened the match with a 25-17 win. Senior setter

Ang started the third set with two straight aces and the Scarlet Raptors led all the way to a 25-16 victory, but NJCU countered with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.
Rutgers-Camden received 14 kills from freshman outside hitter
Asha Pensa Johnson, while freshman defensive specialist
Ella Carmen Truitt added 12 kills and junior outside hitter
Sofia Granieri had 10.
Ang collected another double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs, while adding five service aces. Andrews had 14 assists.

Mia Owens delivered 24 digs and added four service aces.
Fitzpatrick had 21 kills and 24 digs for NJCU, while sophomore setter Rae Marrero notched 42 assists.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action this Saturday with a tri-match at Wilkes University. The Raptors face Wilkes at 12 p.m. and Hood College at 2 p.m.
