MONTCLAIR, N.J. (Oct. 7, 2025) – Freshman setter Lucy Cornelius collected 47 of Montclair State University's 52 assists as the Red Hawks defeated Rutgers University-Camden in four sets here Tuesday in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.
Montclair State won by scores of 25-15, 25-14, 25-27, 25-10.
The victory lifted the Red Hawks to 15-3 overall and 3-1 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden fell to 6-10 and 0-4.
In the opening set, Montclair State overcame an 8-4 deficit on the way to its win, taking the lead for good at 9-8 on a kill by Lily Thomas, one of the 55 kills by the home team in the match. The Red Hawks grabbed a 5-4 lead in the second set on a Raptor attack error and went on to post their 25-14 win.
In a tight third set, Rutgers-Camden rallied from a 19-15 deficit, tied the Red Hawks at 22-22 on a service ace by junior libero
Mia Owens, and eventually broke a 25-25 tie on a kill and a service ace by sophomore middle blocker
Gabby Gbolahan.
The Red Hawks jumped to a quick lead in the fourth set and went on to wrap up the match, 25-10.
Rutgers-Camden received 10 kills from Gbolahan, who hit .500, and nine kills from freshman outside hitter

Avery Ang notched a double-double of 22 assists and 14 digs, while Owens finished with 18 digs and senior defensive specialist
Sophia LaPorta had 12 digs. Junior setter
JoAnna Andrews added 10 digs and five service aces, leaving her two aces shy of 100 for her career.
Owens' 18 digs hiked her career total to 989, leaving her 11 short of becoming the sixth player in program history to reach the 1,000-dig milestone.
The Scarlet Raptors play a non-conference match at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Gwynedd Mercy University.
