Scarlet Raptors open competition at NJAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

EWING, N.J. (May 3, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's and women's track programs established numerous personal records and strong performances as the Scarlet Raptors competed on the first day of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships here Saturday at The College of New Jersey.
 
2025 NJAC Outdoor Track logoJunior Walter Pierce set four PRs out of five events in his first day of the men's decathlon. He finished first in a seven-man field of the 400-meter dash (52.31), second in both the 100-meter dash (11.31) and shot put (11.21 meters), and fifth in the long jump (5.70 meters), all with a PR mark. He also finished fourth with a high jump of 1.62 meters.
 
Sophomore Sydnie Marshall qualified for the finals of the 400-meter dash, finishing eighth of 28 runners in a PR of 1:00.35. The 400-meter final also featured Scarlet Raptor freshman A'Maya Stanard (14th with a PR of 1:04.26), junior Xochitl Bautista-Castelan (20th, 1:07.12) and sophomore Angelina Francis (28th with a PR of 1:16.85).
 
In the 27-athlete field of the men's 400-meter dash, both freshmen Kristopher Ewell and Antonio Busbee set a PR, with Ewell qualifying for the finals by finishing third (48.88). Busbee finished 23rd (53.22).
 
Four Scarlet Raptors ran in the 32-athlete field of the women's 100-meter dash, with juniors Deleon Foster (a PR of 13.37) and Angelina Cellucci (a PR of 14.87) finishing 23rd and 28th, respectively. Sophomores Osagiaodouwa Ugowe (15.69) and Jenifer Bermeo (a PR of 16.29), finished 30th and 32nd.
 
Ugowe also tied her PR of 4.12 meters while finishing 19th of 19 in the long jump. Sophomore Sophia LaPorta finished 18th in the long jump with a 4.17-meter leap.
 
A pair of freshmen set their PR in the men's 100-meter dash, with David Machado finishing 28th of 33 (11.60) and Marcus Brown placing 33rd (11.95).
 
In the women's 200-meter dash, sophomore Katelynn Aurelus placed 27th of 32 in a PR of 30.09, while Bautista-Castelan was 28th (a PR of 30.30), sophomore Matogoma Meite was 29th (31.28) and Cellucci finished 31st (32.00). For the men, Brown placed 24th of 30 in the 200-meter dash (a PR of 24.15) and Busbee was 25th (a PR of 24.18).
 
Sophomore Hector Diaz finished ninth of 12 in the men's 110-meter hurdles (16.02), while Aurelus finished 11th of 11 in the women's 400-meter hurdles in a PR of 1:19.00.
 
In the field events, sophomore Mya Cabanas Montero destroyed her previous PR of 16.10 meters in the women's hammer, throwing for 30.63 meters to finish 17th of 22. Junior Kayla Franklin finished 19th in the hammer with her own PR of 26.98. On the men's side, sophomore Dyheim Watson set a PR of 44.31 meters while finishing eighth of 15 athletes. Freshman Emmanuel Richardson was 14th (23.32 meters).
 
In the women's javelin, Franklin placed seventh of 17 with a PR of 33.80 meters, while senior Francis Hill set a PR of 30.77 meters and finished 10th. Cabanas Montero finished 14th (22.69 meters).
 
The Scarlet Raptors will return to TCNJ on Sunday for the final day of the NJAC Championships.
