CENTER VALLEY, Penn. (Aug. 30, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team played a pair of tight matches here Saturday at the DeSales University Invitational, but the Scarlet Raptors came up on the short end while losing to host DeSales, 3-2, and to Muhlenberg University, 3-0.
The Raptors, 0-3, return to action Wednesday with a 7 p.m. match at Widener University.
DeSales 3, Rutgers-Camden 2
DeSales (1-1) broke a 13-13 tie by scoring the final two points of the decisive fifth set to edge the Scarlet Raptors, 15-13. The Bulldogs notched the points on a kill by Maddie Sandt and a Raptor attack error.
After losing the opening set, 25-23, the Scarlet Raptors bounced back to post a 25-14 win in the second set. Leading, 21-14, they wrapped up the match with four straight points on back-to-back kills by senior
Avery Ang, a kill by freshman
Ella Carmen Truitt and a set-clinching DeSales attack error.
DeSales captured a 25-14 win in the third set, but the Scarlet Raptors rallied from a 23-22 deficit to win the fourth set, 25-23. They won the last three points on a kill by freshman
Asha Pensa Johnson to tie the game at 23-23, then closed out the win on back-to-back kills by sophomore
Taylor White, both assisted by junior
JoAnna Andrews.
DeSales received 14 kills from Brooke Signorella, while Jocelyn Castro had 11 kills and hit .435. Allison Reimer had a team-high 18 digs and Ashlyn Dinan led the Bulldogs with 25 assists.
Truitt (10 kills, 12 digs), Andrews (17 assists, 15 digs) and Ang (16 assists, 17 digs) paced the Scarlet Raptors with double-doubles, while junior
Mia Owens added 17 digs and led the team with six service aces. White and Pensa Johnson finished with nine and eight kills, respectively.
Muhlenberg 3, Rutgers-Camden 0
The Mules raised their record to 2-0 by sweeping past the Scarlet Raptors, despite two very close sets in the final two games. Muhlenberg won by scores of 25-11, 28-26 and 25-22.
In the marathon second set, Muhlenberg survived by breaking a 26-26 deadlock on a kill by Christina Marcin and a Raptor attack error. After Rutgers-Camden closed to within 24-22 in the final set, the Mules clinched the match on a Raptor attack error.
Andrea Romero-Agosto paced the Mules with 11 kills while hitting .625. Marcin added 10 kills and five aces, Jenny Ryan had 21 assists and Emma Laskaj collected 11 digs.
For the Scarlet Raptors, White notched 10 kills and hit .714, while sophomore
Gabby Gbolahan collected 10 kills. Andrews had a team-high 12 digs and barely missed a double-double with nine assists. Owens added 11 digs and Ang led the way with 13 assists.
