NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia (Sept. 13, 2025) – Christopher Newport University junior back Yazan Yaghmmour scored the lone goal of the game in the 75th minute here Saturday as the Captains outlasted Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, in a non-conference game.
The loss was the first of the season for the Scarlet Raptors (3-1-1), while the Captains improved to 3-0-2.
Yaghmmour scored his first goal of the season on a free kick from the right side into the left side of the goal.
Christopher Newport held a slim 13-11 edge in shots, although Rutgers-Camden had a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Captains had five corner kicks, while the Scarlet Raptors had two.

Aleksander Nycz made two saves. Christopher Newport senior Hayden Dewey notched the shutout with four saves.
The Scarlet Raptors continue their Virginia trip on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game at Virginia Wesleyan University.
