COLLEGEVILLE, Penn. (Sept. 25, 2025) – Junior setter
JoAnna Andrews became only the fifth player in Rutgers University-Camden volleyball history to pass 1,000 career assists as the Scarlet Raptors posted a 3-1 victory over Ursinus College in a non-conference match here Thursday night.
Andrews collected 19 assists to hike her career total to 1,001 and completed a double-double with 13 digs. She trails fourth-place Michelle Dixon (2011-13) by 39 assists.
Rutgers-Camden won the match by scores of 27-25, 25-19, 16-25 and 25-16.
The Scarlet Raptors improved to 4-7, snapping a three-match losing streak. Ursinus fell to 4-7, snapping a two-match winning streak.
In the opening set, the Scarlet Raptors scored the final three points after trailing, 25-24, to pull out the victory. A kill and a service ace by senior setting
Avery Ang were sandwiched around an Ursinus attack error in that three-point run.
In the second set, an Ursinus attack error broke a 14-14 tie and put Rutgers-Camden ahead for good. The Raptors opened the third set by winning the first four points before Ursinus rallied for its lone win, but Rutgers-Camden led practically the whole way in the fourth set to clinch the match.
Rutgers-Camden received an outstanding match from freshman outside hitter
Asha Pensa Johnson, who had 17 kills and only one error in 26 attack attempts for a lofty .615 hitting percentage.
Ang also had an outstanding match, notching a triple-double with 10 kills, 18 assists and 14 digs. Junior libero
Mia Owens had a team-high 22 digs and freshman defensive specialist
Ella Carmen Truitt led the team with three service aces, while adding seven digs.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference match at Rutgers-Newark.
