NEWARK, N.J. (Sept. 30, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden and Rutgers University-Newark volleyball teams took turns swapping victories here Tuesday, but unfortunately for the Scarlet Raptors, the home team won all the odd-number sets as it posted a 3-2 win in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match.
Newark wrapped up the final set by six points to post a wild 25-20, 22-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-9 win.
The victory evens Rutgers-Newark's record at 7-7 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Camden falls to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
In a tight opening set, the Scarlet Raiders held a 21-20 lead before scoring the last four points on a kill by senior Tracey Ilderis, a pair of Raptor attack errors and a bad Rutgers-Camden set.

Back-to-back Raptor attack errors gave the Scarlet Raiders their final two points in a 25-21 third-set win. Rutgers-Camden, however, bounced back to win a 25-21 victory in the fourth set, scoring three of its final five points on kills by Pensa Johnson. Sophomore middle blocker
Gabby Gbolahan had a kill in the run and the final point came on a Newark attack error.
In the final set, the Scarlet Raptors fell behind, 10-3, before rallying to within 11-8, but Newark closed out the game with four of the last five points.
Newark received 16 kills from sophomore outside hitter Jaedyn Sima-Malasarte and 29 assists from senior setter Angelyse Orellana.
Pensa Johnson had a huge match for the Scarlet Raptors, collecting 20 kills, while Granieri and Ang both added 10 kills.
Ang completed her second straight triple double, adding 22 assists and 11 digs to her 10 kills.
