CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 3, 2025) – The goals came fast and furious in the first half for the Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team, with senior midfielder
Joseph Lodise leading the way.
Lodise notched his first collegiate hat trick to lead a six-goal first-half onslaught as the Scarlet Raptors defeated Penn State-Abington, 6-1, here Wednesday. Lodise scored three goals in the opening 24:43 of play, starting with a shot from the left side of the box to the back right panel off a cross from senior midfielder
Tommy Monaghan at 10:02. He added another goal off a cross from sophomore midfielder
Nik Grello in the 14th minute.
Rutgers-Camden made it a 3-0 game at 18:05 when senior back
Eric Swen headed home a corner kick from junior forward
Miguel Graterol. Lodise completed his hat trick at 24:43, with another assist by Monaghan.
The hat trick was the first at Rutgers-Camden since Oct. 16, 2021, when Skyler Diggs scored three goals against New Jersey City University.
The Scarlet Raptors kept the pressure on and added unassisted goals by senior forward
Ethan Steinbiss at 36:02 and by junior forward
Nathan Biersbach in the 42nd minute. Biersbach's goal came when he curled a corner kick inside the far post.
Abington scored its lone goal early in the second half on an unassisted tally by freshman defender Aramis Shire.
Rutgers-Camden held a 12-8 advantage in shots and a 7-0 margin in corner kicks. Raptor junior goalie
Aleksander Nycz made five saves while picking up the win. Abington senior Brendan Werner had one save while allowing all six goals in the opening half. Freshman keeper Keegan Courduff played the second half without a save.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action on Saturday when it hosts New York University at 1 p.m.
