CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 10, 2015) – After nearly three weeks without any competition, the Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team started a busy stretch of its schedule here Saturday, losing a non-conference match against Immaculata University, 8-1.
The Scarlet Raptors hadn't played since a Sept. 21 match at The College of New Jersey, watching three conference matches get postponed by rain in the meantime. Those matches have been rescheduled for Oct. 23-25, as Rutgers-Camden will play at Stockton University (Oct. 23) before hosting Ramapo College (Oct. 24) and William Paterson University (Oct. 25).
Saturday's loss to Immaculata dropped the Scarlet Raptors to 1-5, while the Mighty Macs improved to 8-3.
Senior
Amanda Hickman (Millville, NJ/Millville) and sophomore
Angela Errigo (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) accounted for the lone Raptor win with an 8-3 victory at first doubles. Hickman also dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision at first singles, while Errigo lost a close 7-5, 6-4 decision at second singles.
Freshmen
Ina San Buenaventura (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) and
Bryana Foxx-Parham (Richmond, VA/Armstrong) lost an 8-0 decision at second doubles and dropped 6-0, 6-0 matches at third and fourth singles, respectively. Foxx-Parham was competing in her first collegiate tennis match.
The Raptors, who had only four players for the match, lost at third doubles and both the fifth and sixth singles by default.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Sunday for a 1 p.m. non-conference match when it hosts the College of Staten Island. The Scarlet Raptors return to New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Monday with a 4:45 p.m. match at Kean University.
