Christopher Moseley (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) added 18 as the Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 72-61, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.
Ramapo improves to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in the NJAC, and hikes its all-time lead against Rutgers-Camden to 44-15, snapping a three-game Raptor winning streak in the series.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 2-12 overall and 1-8 in the NJAC with its sixth straight loss.
The score was tied seven times and the lead changed hands three times, with Ramapo taking the lead for good at 28-26 on a jumper by Nock late in the first half. The visitors held a 36-34 lead at the break and were still ahead by two, 38-36, when Nock canned back-to-back three-pointers to open up an eight-point Roadrunner lead early in the second half.
The closest the Scarlet Raptors came after that was 44-39, following a layup by freshman forward
Isaac Destin (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood) and a foul shot by sophomore forward
Abby Bah (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial). Ramapo, which hiked its lead to as many as 15 points on a pair of occasions, finished with a 40-36 edge off the boards, shot 26-for-63 (41.3 percent) from the field and 15-for-19 (78.9) from the foul line. Nock went a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Moseley added seven rebounds to lead Ramapo's efforts off the boards, while sophomore forward
Nick Stanek (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) collected nine points and four rebounds. Sophomore guard
James Long (Matawan, NJ/St. Joe's Metuchen) had a game-high five assists.
Rutgers-Camden received 16 points and six rebounds from Destin, while Bay added 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Senior guard/forward
John Tatem (Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) added nine points, senior guard
Julian Diaz-Smitherman (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) collected eight points and senior guard
Shaun Thomas (Newark, NJ/St. Mary's of the Assumption) added seven points for the Scarlet Raptors.
Rutgers-Camden shot 21-for-54 (38.9) from the field, but only 3-for-14 (21.4) from three-point range. The Raptors also made four more turnovers than the Roadrunners, 18-14.
Both teams return to NJAC action with home games Wednesday night. Ramapo faces William Paterson University at 7:30 p.m. Rutgers-Camden tips off against The College of New Jersey at 8 p.m.
