Box Score CAMDEN, N.J. (Jan. 20, 2016) – The College of New Jersey men's basketball team drained eight three-pointers in the opening half to open up a 15-point lead at the break and it went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 73-53, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
The Lions, who have won four of their last five games and six of the last nine, improve to 11-6 overall and 6-4 in the NJAC. They have won three straight games against the Scarlet Raptors and now lead the all-time series, 61-18.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 2-13 overall and 1-9 in the NJAC with its seventh straight loss.
Freshman guard
Kevin Bloodgood (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) paced the Lions' hot distance shooting in the first half, going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. He helped TCNJ shoot 8-for-18 from three-point range overall on its way to a 35-20 halftime lead. The Lions finished the night 10-for-25 from three-point range.
In the second half, TCNJ opened up leads as large as 27 points (71-44) before posting the 20-point victory.
The Lions placed 10 players in the scoring column, led by sophomore guard
Kevin Johnson (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery), who scored a game-high 18 points. Junior guard
Nick Alaimo (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) added 16 points for the Lions, while Bloodgood and sophomore guard
Eric Murdock, Jr. (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater) both netted nine. Murdock also had nine rebounds, three steals and a game-high six assists.
Rutgers-Camden received 14 points from freshman forward
Isaac Destin (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood), while senior guard
Jonathan Baker-Jernigan (Willingboro, NJ/BCIT-Medford) added nine. Sophomore forward
Abby Bah (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) collected a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Raptors shot 18-for-57 (31.6 percent) from the field, including only 2-for-19 (10.5) from three-point range. TCNJ was 25-for-57 (43.9) from the field.
Both teams are scheduled to play 3 p.m. NJAC games on Saturday, barring a snowstorm. TCNJ will host Montclair State University and Rutgers-Camden will play at William Paterson University.
