First-half runs spark Lehman past Rutgers-Camden men

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Jan. 25, 2016) – The Lehman College men's basketball team used first-half runs of 13 and 11 points while building a 16-point lead at the break here Monday night. The Lightning went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 87-69, in a non-conference game.
 
Lehman, which has won four of its last five games, improved to 14-5. Rutgers-Camden dropped to 2-14 with its eighth straight loss.
 
After the Scarlet Raptors opened up an early 9-2 lead, Lehman rattled off 11 straight points to take the lead for good at 13-9. Rutgers-Camden managed to cut the gap to 17-16 before Lehman scored the next 13 points, aided by a pair of three-pointers from junior guard Edwin Pascual (Bronx, NY/Bronx Regional) and five points from senior forward Jobse Reyes (Bronx, NY/Boys and Girls).
 
By halftime, the Lightning held a 45-29 lead, with Pascual scoring 14 points, senior guard Olando Minott (Bronx, NY/Samuel Gompers) netting 10 and Reyes adding eight. Sophomore guard John Brens (Washington Heights, NY/All Hallows) collected 12 assists in the opening half for Lehman on his way to a career-high 13.
 
Rutgers-Camden never came closer than 10 points (53-43 and 55-45) in the second half, as Lehman stretched its lead to as many as 23 points (79-56).
 
Minott and Pascual both collected 21 points for the Lightning, which placed 10 players in the scoring column. Senior forward Olusegun Williams (Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) added 14 points and Reyes finished with 13. In addition to his game- and career-high 13 assists, Brens added a game-high five steals.
 
Rutgers-Camden received a career-high 19 points from sophomore forward Abby Bah (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial), who shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the field and 3-for-3 from the foul line. Bah, whose previous scoring his was 14 points against Immaculata on Dec. 12, also added a game-high 11 rebounds as he finished with his second career double-double.
 
Freshman forward Isaac Destin (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood) collected his first career double-double with 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, passing his previous high of seven boards against Neumann Dec. 30.
 
Freshman guard Tyree Mann-Barnes (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood) notched 12 points and freshman guard Elijah Robles (Clinton, NJ/Clinton) canned 10 points and notched his fourth five-assist game, tying his career high.
 
Rutgers-Camden returns to New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Wednesday with an 8 p.m. game at Rowan University.
