Box Score

UNION, N.J. (Oct. 18, 2016) – Sophomore transfer Myiah Gatling (Woolwich Township, NJ/Kingsway Regional) collected a match-high 13 kills against her former team, but the Kean University Cougars defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 3-1, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference volleyball match here Tuesday.

Kean won by scores of 25-12, 25-17, 21-25 and 25-13 as it raised its record to 17-8 overall and 5-3 in the NJAC.

Rutgers-Camden falls to 14-14 overall and 2-5 in the NJAC as it was eliminated from a possible post-season playoff berth in the six-team conference tournament. The Raptors are seventh in the conference with one NJAC match to play, but have already lost to both teams one game ahead of them, which is the first tie-breaker.

Gatling, who played her freshman season at Kean last year, added four block assists to her game-high 13 kills.

Rutgers-Camden also received six kills apiece from a trio of freshmen, Jordan Erskine (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) and sisters Morgan Mulligan and Jamie Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Regional). Morgan Mulligan also added two service aces, while Erskine had three assisted blocks.

Freshmen Caitlynn Marcano (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Meghan Gallagher (Sicklerville, NJ/Paul VI) collected 22 and 15 assists, respectively. Gallagher added eight digs, while Marcano had seven.

Senior co-captain Melanie Kaiser (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) notched a team-high 12 digs and added two aces. Her fellow senior co-captain, Caitlin Marchlowitz (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), notched seven digs. Both players also moved up on the career list for matches played. Marchlowitz moved into third place on the all-time Rutgers-Camden list with her 117th match, while Kaiser tied for fifth place with her 112th match. Marchlowitz also tied for third place in career sets played at 403, knotting the total of Catherine Tadeja (2009-12).

The Scarlet Raptors play their final NJAC and home match when they entertain Ramapo College Tuesday at 7 p.m. The match will serve as Senior Night for Kaiser and Marchlowitz.
