PHILADELPHIA, Penn. (April 16, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden duo of junior
Melissa Price (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) and senior
Olivia Rowland (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) finished second in the Women's Varsity Pair finals to highlight a fine day of rowing by the Scarlet Raptors at the Kerr Cup Saturday on the Schuylkill River.
The Raptors qualified for the finals by finishing second in their heat (notching a time of 8:28.94) behind West Point (8:24.20), then beat West Point by 28 seconds while finishing a close second in the six-team finals. The only Division III school rowing in the finals, the Rutgers-Camden duo posted a time of 8:17.38, less than five seconds behind Drexel's A boat (8:12.61).
The women's varsity pair wasn't the only Raptor boat to reach the finals. Rutgers-Camden's boat finished second in its heat (8:46.01) in the Women's Frosh/Novice Four, qualifying for the finals. In the six-boat finals, Rutgers-Camden finished sixth in a time of 8:45.55 in a race that featured four Division I boats and was won by Villanova (8:07.32).
The women's frosh/novice boat included juniors
Tracy Austin (Haddon Township, NJ/Camden Catholic) and
LeeAnn Still (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and freshmen
Mia Di Lolle (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) and
Veronica Rosselli (North Haledon, NJ/Paramus Catholic), with sophomore
Briana Tichian (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) doing a stellar job in her first race as the coxswain.
On the men's side, Rutgers-Camden finished fifth in its heat in the Men's Varsity Pair (8:09.38) and fifth in its heat in the Men's Varsity Four (7:59.65).
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday, April 23, when it rows against Stockton University in Ventnor. The following week, both of those teams will compete at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships at Gifford Pinchot State Park in Lewisberry, Penn.
